Marcus Rashford‘s solo goal was the highlight of Manchester United’s victory over Burnley.

But manager Erik ten Hag felt another aspect of the forward’s play was even more impressive, explaining he was most pleased with the attacker’s movement.

Rashford worked hard from the opening whistle, closing down off the ball, and getting into space when his teammates have it.

The manager told the club website he was pleased because United have the passing quality to take advantage of clever movement in attack.

Ten Hag praises Marcus Rashford’s movement

Erik ten Hag said he was delighted with Rashford’s contribution to the attack.

He explained: “I think he was a threat for the defending line of Burnley. He moved so often behind the defending line and they are the most difficult situations to get the ball there.

“But with the passing capabilities of players like Eriksen, Casemiro and Bruno, we have the players that can get the ball there.

“[You have to] keep going and keep believing that the ball is going to get there, but it is an investment. [It] costs a lot of energy and costs a lot of power and today he got the benefit from it.”

He added of his strike: “It was a dribble and a great goal.”

Rashford is Manchester United’s top scorer this season and it was great to see him get straight back among the goals.

He struck three for England in the group stages and was underused in the knockouts. If he feels like he has a point to prove to Gareth Southgate, then he is off to a good start, making it.

Rashford’s goal meanwhile booked United’s place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, with opponent set to be learned in tonight’s draw.
