Teden Mengi is reported to be close to joining Birmingham City on loan for the rest of the season.
Birmingham Live report Mengi is ‘very close’ to securing a loan switch to the Championship club.
Mengi featured in the Champions League last month under new boss Ralf Rangnick, coming on as a substitute against Young Boys, impressing fans.
This loan move is a good opportunity for Mengi after he was unlucky to miss out on a move in the summer.

A player with high potential
Mengi had a loan spell in the Championship last season with Derby County, which had it’s ups and downs, as you would expect for an 18-year-old playing in an unforgiving league in a struggling team.
His move was cut short by injury and while he got the chance to feature for United’s first team in pre-season, his performances were mixed.
Upon returning for the under-23s, Mengi was excellent, rediscovering his form which was lacking after lockdown in 2020 prior to his loan at Derby.
Mengi is as such far better equipped for his loan at Birmingham thanks to the performances he has put in for United’s under-23s and in the UEFA Youth League.
His departure does leave United a little light at centre-back at youth level, although there is a chance Will Fish is recalled from his loan at Stockport County.
Mengi could be in for a relegation scrap with Birmingham, who are 18th in the Championship, but a run of wins could just as easily see them jump up into play-off contention.

Joins a United teammate
Birmingham had early success this season with United youngster Tahith Chong, who joined the club on loan.
Chong impressed before sustaining an injury and headed back for treatment. He is said to be closing in on a return with Blues boss Lee Bowyer telling club media he is ahead of schedule.
It may not be too long before Mengi and Chong are lining up together again, and after the disappointment of not securing a loan last summer, the young centre-back will be delighted to have a deal lined up already.
