Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has spotted a trait in Benjamin Sesko that he hasn’t noticed in most strikers, after accepting that Rasmus Hojlund wasn’t the right man.

The 2026/27 season is going to be a big one for Benjamin Sesko.

No longer a rookie, as it will be his second campaign at Old Trafford, Sesko is expecting to build on the 11 goals he scored after arriving from RB Leipzig.

United need more goalscorers to compete for the Premier League titles again. Teddy Sheringham is someone who knows a thing or two about that.

Man Utd’s Premier League fixtures for 2026/27 have now been CONFIRMED – What do you think?

Benjamin Sesko can be a target man for Man Utd, says Teddy Sheringham

Sheringham is like a fine wine.

In April, the 1999 Treble-winner became 60, and he remains the oldest player to score a Premier League hat-trick – in August 2003 when playing for Portsmouth against Bolton, at the age of 37 years and 146 days old.

Sheringham earned over 50 caps playing for the England national team, and his opinions carry weight as a retired striker who knew how to score goals in the Premier League.

Sesko is a player Sheringham has paid close attention to over the past year since he signed for United.

He believes Sesko can become a target man for United and offers something that many strikers can’t, including Rasmus Hojlund.

Sheringham told ComeOn: “United have already tried signing all sorts of different players to go up front. They went along with the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and it didn’t work. He wasn’t the right option. I think Sesko gives you something a lot of other strikers can’t.

“He can be a target man to play off but he can get into good positions too. He’s got a lovely touch and feel for the ball. Great awareness. Most importantly, he scores goals. He’s got a bit of everything and not many players have that in his position.”

Where does Teddy Sheringham rank among Premier League top scorers?

Sheringham was the inaugural Golden Boot winner in 1993 after moving from Nottingham Forest to Tottenham, scoring 22 Premier League goals (21 for Tottenham and one for Forest), before finishing as the league’s top scorer.

In the all-time Premier League scorer standings, however, Sheringham ranks with a total of 146 goals.

That has Sheringham 13th in the top scorer standings.
