Manchester United are facing the heavy consequences that come from poor recruitment.
Inoes is trying to improve Manchester United’s recruitment by changing the club’s approach to signing players.
Ever since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner, United have emphasised young talent in the transfer market, as seen with signings such as Chido Obi, Leny Yoro and Patrick Dorgu.
Moreover, Erik ten Hag was dismissed in October and later replaced by a younger manager.
Ruben Amorim, 40, will hope United can land their primary targets this summer as he attempts to rebuild the squad for future success. The United head coach is currently working with a squad assembled by Ten Hag, including misfiring striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Hojlund isn’t alone when it comes to misfiring strikers brought to United by Ten Hag. The Dutch coach also signed Wout Weghorst, who proved to be a flop, and he was responsible for identifying multiple sub-standard targets.
Brian Brobbey urged to sign for Brighton
Ajax striker Brian Brobbey was often linked with a move to Manchester United during Ten Hag’s reign.
United were offered Brobbey in January but Ineos decided to pass the opportunity to sign the Netherlands international.
It comes as no surprise that United rejected the chance to sign Brobbey midway through the season, especially after managing just four goals in 28 games in the Eredivisie season.
A new report from Voetbal Primeur cites comments from Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen claiming Ten Hag wanted to sign Brobbey for £34m even though he is now valued for less than £8.5m.
“Ten Hag wanted to pay another €40m for him, now they are not even paying €10m,” Driessen said about the striker.
However, former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart believes Brobbey can turn things around once he finds a way out of Ajax.
The former Netherlands star responded to the criticism Brobbey has faced this season, saying: I know for sure that if he goes abroad, he will become a great player again.
“He just has to leave Ajax. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but that connection is no longer there. He is probably also playing against himself a bit.
“If you leave the Netherlands, there is also less attention for you.”
If Brobbey is after less attention, it’s a good job he didn’t sign for United in the past.
Van der Vaart went on to urge the Ajax striker to join Brighton in the summer.
“I would like to see him in England. Brighton & Hove Albion for example. I really still believe in him.”
Brobbey turned down Manchester United in 2022
Brobbey previously revealed he was approached by United – but opted for a move to Ajax when he returned to Holland after a difficult loan spell in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig where he registered three assists in 14 matches.
In an interview back in January 2024, cited by the Manchester Evening News, Brobbey confirmed that he turned down a move to Old Trafford.
“Erik ten Hag called me and said that at United, my agent would get millions of euros and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary,” Brobbey said.
“But our decision was clear: we wanted to go to Ajax.
“Manchester United wanted to have me, but I insisted on returning to Ajax. To make that possible, my agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even waived a hefty percentage of the sell-on clause.”
