Manchester United legends Steve Bruce and Paul Scholes both saw eye to eye over the role and impact that one first-team player has had at Old Trafford in 2025.

Ruben Amorim has seen a turnaround in form for Manchester United in recent weeks after a tough start to the 2025-26 Premier League campaign under his reign.

United are now ninth in the Premier League table under Ruben Amorim ahead of hosting 10th-place Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

However, the Red Devils are only two Premier League points adrift from the top four after United’s convincing 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on the weekend.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire ensured that the Red Devils walked away with all three Premier League points against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Steve Bruce singles out Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha for his powerful Man Utd point

Both Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha impressed with their respective performances in Manchester United’s Premier League result over Liverpool.

The two Red Devils summer signings were deployed in the starting XI and Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha played the full 90 minutes for Ruben Amorim’s men.

Steve Bruce believes that both Mbeumo and Cunha are the standout examples of United nailing their recruitment under the Ineos regime at Old Trafford.

“I think the most important thing this year for United anyway, they’ve bought well, and that’s crucial these days,” he told ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football’ podcast.

Joining Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes on the duo’s show, Bruce later added: “But I think this year with Mbeumo – is that how you pronounce it? – [and] Cunha are good Premier League players.

“[…] The two of them who’ve they [have] brought in have given them a little bit of ability at the top end.”

Paul Scholes raves about one Man Utd summer signing after Steve Bruce’s Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha remarks

United star Mbeumo earned praise for his performance, including his early link-up with Amad Diallo to open the scoring at Anfield in only the second minute of the tie.

United legend Scholes was in awe at the imposing presence of the 26-year-old French-born winger and how Mbeumo handled himself against Liverpool on Sunday.

“You talk about going to Anfield, don’t you [Bruce], and someone taking the ball and just looking strong and powerful, a bit of a [specimen], it was him [Mbeumo],” he told Bruce and Nicky Butt.

“It was brilliant. As a centre-forward, he’s brilliant.”

Mbeumo has been a standout performer for United manager Amorim since his big-money move from Premier League side Brentford in July.

The Cameroon international, who was signed for an initial fee of £65m, has scored three times and picked up one assist in nine appearances for the Red Devils so far.
