Michael Carrick showed his eagle-eye awareness after he picked up on one major change that Ruben Amorim made in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

Ruben Amorim finally saw Manchester United seal back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since he replaced Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in 2024.

United defeated Sunderland 2-0 at Old Trafford ahead of the October international break, with the Red Devils following it up with a stunning display against Liverpool.

Amad Diallo picked out Bryan Mbeumo for United’s opener on Sunday afternoon in only the second minute, with Liverpool facing an uphill task against the Red Devils.

Cody Gakpo scored from close range late in the second half to cancel out Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half strike and pulled Liverpool level against fierce rivals United.

However, the Red Devils walked away with all three Premier League points on the weekend after Harry Maguire netted a stunning header in the 84th minute.

Michael Carrick immediately asks Michael Owen about one noticeable Man Utd change in the 2-1 Liverpool win at Anfield

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim tweaked his frontline for the trip to Anfield, with striker Benjamin Sesko dropping to the bench for Sunday’s match.

Matheus Cunha came into the United frontline and linked up with Mason Mount and fellow summer signing Bryan Mbeumo for the Premier League tie against Liverpool.

Benjamin Sesko’s absence from the starting XI saw Matheus Cunha dropping into deeper pockets of space on the pitch in Amorim’s tactical system for United.

Cunha played a key role in United’s first-half opener after he collected the ball and forced a pass out to wing-back Amad Diallo, who subsequently assisted Mbeumo.

The Premier League’s TikTok account has now shared a clip where Michael Carrick instantly spotted the key change that Amorim had made with Cunha’s role.

Watching alongside former Liverpool and United striker Michael Owen, Carrick asked: “Is Cunha playing deeper there?”
