Spanish media rave about ‘spectacular’ Antony performance as Man Utd loanee scores again for Real Betis

Antony may not have a route back to first-team action at Manchester United, but he could bring in a significant transfer fee this summer.

Manchester United have overspent on big-money signings over the years, with Ineos now trying to unpick the mess at Old Trafford.

Sadly, one player who sums up that overspending is winger Antony.

United signed Antony from Ajax in 2022, paying around £85million to reunite the winger with Erik ten Hag.

After three goals in three games to start his United career, Antony struggled and ultimately lost his place in the starting XI.

Ruben Amorim allowed Antony to join Real Betis in January and the Brazilian is now recapturing his top form in Spain.

Spanish media praise Antony against Girona

Antony has taken on a key role under Manuel Pellegrini and has racked up goals and assists under the Chilean.

The Spanish media praised Antony for his display against Barcelona earlier in April, and he turned in another strong display on Monday night.

Real Betis beat Girona 3-1 away from home with Antony firing home the second goal with a brilliant right-footed side-foot volley.

That is now has five goals and four assists in 17 games for Betis, leaving the Spanish media seriously impressed once again.

Here are some of the best reactions from the Spanish media as Antony impressed yet again for Real Betis…

“He needed to find his way back to goal. He needed to celebrate again, to roar again, to find his way back into the net. He found plenty of space to run and cause damage behind the defense, alternating his position to surprise with runs from the back, although he sometimes erred on the side of selfishness,” said El Desmarque, rating Antony at an eight out of 10.

“He’s back in top form. After a few less impressive matches, the Brazilian put in a spectacular performance in Girona. From the start, he made a difference with his quality and imagination,” said Mucho Deporte, handing Antony a nine out of 10 rating.

“Not only did he uncover the eternal mystery of attacking essences with his wide passes, incredible dribbles, and clairvoyant passing, but he also showed great solidarity in assisting Ruibal with Danjuma. A stunning goal with his weaker foot proved he is, by far, the best winter signing in LaLiga. He could have scored more after the break,” said Estadio Deportivo.

Antony interest surely on the rise

Antony’s form for Real Betis is unlikely to give him a future at Old Trafford, and may only leave United more convinced to sell.

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Antony, with United demanding around £40million for his signature.

That valuation may have sounded crazy a few months ago, but Antony continues to shine in Spain – giving United a chance to recoup significant cash.

United are trying to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and selling fellow Brazilian Antony could really help in terms of balancing the books.

Atletico surely aren’t alone in the race for Antony though, and his list of suitors is surely growing with each passing goal or assist in a Betis shirt.

That is certainly what United will be hoping for, with Antony shining more for Betis than he ever did at Old Trafford.
