Wayne Rooney’s son Kai has sent out a poignant message after he made a sensational impact for Manchester United upon his return from a long-term injury.
The 14-year-old Liverpool-born player is currently following in his father’s legendary footsteps and is part of United’s youth academy.
Kai has been part of the youth set-ups for Bethesda SC, United and Manchester City, having returned to the Red Devils’ academy in 2020.
The United youngster has endured a long injury lay-off, but Rooney’s son kick-started 2024 with a real bang with his performance against Leeds United’s youngsters.

Kai took to his Instagram account and posted that he had scored twice and registered two assists in United youngsters’ 6-0 thrashing of Leeds.
Posting on Instagram Stories, he wrote: “First game back since months out.”
The United forward shared the message with his 174k followers on the social media platform, with Kai widely praised by fans for his spell at Old Trafford so far.

Kai impressed during the 2021-22 season after he scored an incredible 56 times and registered 28 assists for United.

Rooney supporting Kai’s footballing dreams
Rooney has been out of management since his ill-fated spell at Birmingham City came to an end earlier this month, with the United legend sacked by the club.
The 38-year-old former United striker had an illustrious playing career at Old Trafford and eclipsed Sir Bobby Charlton as the club’s all-time leading scorer.
Kai has revealed that his father has supported him with getting into the “right mentality” for football and the best way to score in the final third.
“It’s a lot about scoring goals because he was pretty good at scoring goals,” he told Gothia Cup in 2023.
“So, it’s mainly tips about that. He is preparing me to get into professional football with the right mentality.
“He’s helping me a lot.”
Kai added: “My dreams are to win the Premier League, Champions League and the World Cup.”
