Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been named in the AFCON team of the group stage for Morocco.
Since signing for Manchester United in the summer, Sofyan Amrabat has struggled to make his mark for the Red Devils and a return to Fiorentina is surely in the offing.
The Moroccan had a superb winter World Cup campaign back in 2022 which led to some of Europe’s biggest teams being linked with a move for the now 27-year-old midfielder.
However, the Moroccan has been overtaken at United by teenage midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and a permanent move to Old Trafford in the summer, once his loan move from Fiorentina expires, is looking unlikely.

Amrabat rewarded for his performances
Since going on international duty with Morocco, the midfielder has performed superbly well and put in a man-of-the-match performance against Zambia in a 1-0 victory.
He has now been awarded a place in the team of the group stage as Morocco prepares for the next round of the competition when they will take on South Africa.

Amrabat’s Premier League struggles
Despite his performances for his national team, once he is back from his excursions with Morocco it seems unlikely that he would go back into the United squad under Erik ten Hag.
For one reason or another, the 27-year-old has struggled to keep up with the pace and power that the Premier League has to offer.
Too often, the midfielder is caught out of position and doesn’t seem to have the pace to get back in. Perhaps a midfield pairing of Mainoo and Amrabat would solve this problem as the pace and reading of the game that the 18-year-old offers the Red Devils could be the key to solving this problem.
Despite this, time is running out for the 27-year-old midfielder to prove to United why they should buy him on a permanent deal.
