96 per cent passing accuracy and 100% tackle success rate… Man Utd star shines on international duty

One Manchester United ace was given the man of the match award on international duty despite his struggles for the Red Devils.

Since moving to the club in the summer from Fiorentina, Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has struggled to make a name for himself at Manchester United.

Due to his World Cup performances with Morocco in 2022, the defensive-midfielder was seen as a potential replacement for Casemiro who struggled early on for the Red Devils this campaign and has missed time with injury.

Amrabat, however, has failed to impress the United fanbase and indeed Erik ten Hag with teenage star Kobbie Mainoo now being the man relied upon most by the Dutchman.

Amrabat’s international performance

Well, despite struggling for the Red Devils, Amrabat performed superbly well for his national team as they picked up a 1-0 win over Zambia in the Africa Cup Of Nations.

Amrabat dominated the proceedings for his national side with a passing accuracy of 96 per cent. He completed 100 per cent of his long balls and take-ons, winning three tackles (100 per cent).

Over the course of the 90 minutes, the midfielder lost the ball just three times and there was little surprise that the 27-year-old was awarded with the Man Of The Match accolade.

Morocco progressed to the round of 16 stage of the African Cup of Nations with the top spot in their group. They finished four points ahead of second-placed DR Congo and they will now face South Africa in the next stage of the competition.

Amrabat looks set to continue a trend of United players performing better for their country than their club, with Paul Pogba being the best, and most infamous, example of this.

Amrabat’s future

Part of the appeal when the Red Devils signed Amrabat was that if the deal did not work out then they could allow him to return to his parent club with the initial transfer being a loan with an option to buy.

As we have surpassed the midway point of the season, the Moroccan has yet to impress and has just looked steady, a solid 6/10 midfielder but not brilliant.

Mainoo has outshone him and in all likelihood, the Red Devils would be making a mistake if they did decide to make the Moroccan’s deal at Old Trafford a permanent one.

He still has five months to convince fans otherwise, but time is running out for him.
