Paul Scholes is convinced that Ruben Amorim would leap at the opportunity to seal one Premier League finish for Manchester United if it were presented to him now.

Manchester United have had a mixed start to the 2025-26 season under Ruben Amorim, with the Red Devils currently ninth in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils climbed to their current Premier League spot ahead of the September break, with United defeating Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford last month.

United have suffered one defeat and picked up a draw and a win in their opening three Premier League matches ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad.

The Red Devils kicked off the new season at Old Trafford and United lost 1-0 to Arsenal in their Premier League opener, despite impressing with their performance.

Fulham hosted United at Craven Cottage last month after the Arsenal result and the Red Devils dropped points after Marco Silva’s men sealed a 1-1 comeback draw.

Paul Scholes makes bold Ruben Amorim claim after being asked about his 2025-26 Premier League prediction for Man Utd

Ruben Amorim came under immense pressure ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League victory over Burnley after the Red Devils’ Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town.

Grimsby Town stunned United at Blundell Park last month and the League Two outfit knocked the Red Devils out of the Carabao Cup in the second round on penalties.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Paul Scholes suggested that it was “difficult” to even predict where the Red Devils could finish in the table under United manager Amorim.

However, the 50-year-old United legend claimed that Amorim “would take” an eighth-place finish in the Premier League table for the 2025-26 campaign.

“This season… It’s so hard to tell,” Scholes said.

“You’re even looking at the first three games: okay, they won one, drawn one, lost one.

“So difficult. I think top eight. I think he would take that at this point.”

Paul Scholes couldn’t be clearer about Man Utd finishing eighth in the Premier League table in the 2025-26 season

United suffered their worst finish in the Premier League era last season, with the Red Devils’ collapse in form leading to a 15th-place finish in the league table.

Amorim was unable to turn around United’s Premier League form after his arrival from Sporting CP last November, following the sacking of Erik ten Hag at the club.

Scholes made his feelings clear that United coming eighth would not be a success story, but he cannot see Amorim finishing any higher with his side this season.

“Is [the] top eight [of the Premier League] good enough for Man United? No, probably not,” he continued.

“But you just don’t see him [Amorim] being any better than that at this point.”

United will face crosstown rivals Manchester City in their first Premier League clash in the post-September international break before hosting Chelsea at Old Trafford.
