Paul Scholes has singled out three Manchester United players and made an eye-opening comparison between two of them after the summer transfer window closed.

Premier League clubs, as well as teams in different European leagues, concluded their final purchases on deadline day before the window shut on 1st September.

The transfer window still remains open in select countries, but the Red Devils ended their summer spending spree with the arrival of five new signings at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim bolstered the attacking options at his disposal in his Manchester United first-team squad after the Red Devils splashed out big on key transfers.

Matheus Cunha was first through the doors at Old Trafford in the summer, while United later added Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to their attacking line.

United’s summer transfer business included the signings of emerging defensive prospect Diego Leon and the arrival of Belgian shot-stopper Senne Lammens.

Paul Scholes speaks out on Man Utd trio, including Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha, after the 2025 summer transfer window

Matheus Cunha has impressed early in his Manchester United playing spell after the Red Devils triggered his £62.5m release clause and signed him back in June.

Paul Scholes is not convinced that Ruben Amorim will be able to use the 26-year-old Brazilian as the ‘perfect’ centre-forward option for the long term at Old Trafford.

Benjamin Sesko, on the other hand, was brought to United as the out-and-out striker option after the Red Devils paid an initial fee of £66.3m to sign him.

United legend Scholes admitted that the 22-year-old Slovenian striker is of “very similar ilk” to Rasmus Hojlund over the huge demands now placed on his shoulders.

“I think it is a lot to expect from a 22-year-old [Sesko],” he told Sky Sports.

“I would have liked a more experienced centre-forward and I suppose Cunha is that, but is he a centre-forward? Is he a number 10? There’s a little bit of doubt about that.

“I just think he’s [Sesko] replacing someone [of] very similar ilk in Rasmus Hojlund, who’s a 22-year-old kid, asked to come to the Premier League for two years and be the only centre-forward at Man United.

“It’s a difficult job for him. And I think it’s going to be the same for this lad.”

Paul Scholes’ early prediction for Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko after the comparison with Napoli star Rasmus Hojlund

Sesko’s summer arrival from RB Leipzig paved the way for Rasmus Hojlund’s loan transfer to Napoli before the summer transfer window closed in Italy and England.

Hojlund had failed to impress in the frontline in his two seasons at Old Trafford and the 22-year-old Denmark international’s future had been in doubt over the summer.

Scholes has insisted that Sesko will need to find his feet with the “pace” of the Premier League and patience will be needed with the former RB Leipzig ace.

“I think it’s going to take him some time to adjust,” he continued.

“It looks like that’s the case in the first couple of games he’s played, but once he gets used to it, picks up the pace for the Premier League, then hopefully he’ll be okay.”

Napoli’s loan deal for United striker Hojlund includes a permanent £38m transfer if key conditions are triggered during the Denmark star’s spell in the Serie A this season.
