Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield to defy all the pre-match predictions.
Ruben Amorim has now won back-to-back Premier League games for the first time, with Manchester United winning away at Liverpool.
United’s Anfield victory followed the win against Sunderland before the international break.
Prior to kick-off it was Liverpool who were the heavy favourites despite their poor run of form, with United failing to win at Anfield since 2016.
When the line-up was announced there were grumblings about the team selection, with matchwinner Harry Maguire’s selection questioned.

Jamie Redknapp admits being wrong over Harry Maguire
Sky Sports analyst Jamie Redknapp has admitted he was wrong to criticise Manchester United starting Harry Maguire.
Speaking after Maguire’s headed winner in the 2-1 away victory, he admitted that Ruben Amorim got everything right.
Redknapp said: “Time will tell if Man Utd can kick on but this feels like a huge win for the manager. He got every call right.
“I questioned whether Maguire was the right man to play but he showed his leadership skills. Cunha over Sesko was the right call as well.
“They also got it right tactically. They never played out from the back once. They got it spot on.”
Early start provided platform for Man Utd winner
Anfield has been a graveyard for former Manchester United managers in recent years, and it is crucial to start the game well.
United had the perfect start with Bryan Mbeumo scoring after 62 seconds, the second fastest ever goal in this fixture in the Premier League era.
Mbeumo’s goal gave United something to cling onto, and most importantly, it provided United’s players with belief that they could compete.
Arne Slot had to make an extreme tactical adjustment to force an equaliser, but United were able to expose their defensive frailty and score again.
United’s back three did lack pace, it was the same defensive trio that started against Brentford. For that reason you could consider it risky from Amorim.
But the head coach counted on experience, and Maguire, Luke Shaw and Matthijs de Ligt all stepped up, with the youthful Leny Yoro coming off the bench to make some vital contributions to help see the game out.
