Andre Onana is on the verge of leaving Manchester United with a deal agreed.

Manchester United and Andre Onana have both decided to move on, and the goalkeeper is now set to agree a move to Trabzonspor.

Onana fell down the pecking order to third choice after Senne Lammens signed on deadline day. His relationship with coach Ruben Amorim had also deteriorated.

Leaving now avoids a future distraction during the AFCON, and draws a line under an error-strewn spell as Manchester United goalkeeper.

Andre Onana repercussions called for

Andre Onana made a major gaffe in his first Manchester United game at Old Trafford when he conceded from distance in a pre-season friendly game against Lens.

He went on to make a series of errors in the Champions League that had a major bearing on United’s group stage elimination.

Despite ending his first season with the FA Cup win, in which he allowed a soft goal, Onana regressed during his second season after Ruben Amorim took over.

His final act for United was a shameful display against Grimsby, making two errors and conceding 11 of 12 penalties in the shootout defeat.

Former Manchester United youngster Alan Tonge has called for repercussions after the move for Onana failed to work out.

Tonge was the first United player signed by Sir Alex Ferguson back in 1987, although did not make a first team appearance.

He blasted on X: “I’m not sure who scouted and recommended Onana to Man Utd after a showreel of calamity at his previous clubs but I sincerely hope they are gone too!

“Absolutely incredible that we were persuaded to pay 47 million for him. It’s part of a long list of comedy transfer activity sadly.”

Overhaul shows Man Utd have moved on

Andre Onana was signed in 2023, the final transfer window before Ineos took over. It was part of a largely disastrous window that also saw £55 million spent on Mason Mount and £64 million on Rasmus Hojlund.

Erik ten Hag pushed for the move for Onana and led the transfer policy at the time, keen to reunite with his former Ajax player. Ten Hag was sacked 15 months later.

And while Tonge calls for any scouts who recommended Onana to face action, there is a very good chance they might have already left.
