Iconic former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson dropped a powerful message for up-and-coming Manchester United players from the Premier League club’s youth academy.
Sir Alex Ferguson was widely admired for the importance that he placed on youth academy players during his legendary 26-year reign at Manchester United.
The 83-year-old Scotsman found incredible success with the pool of talent that emerged from ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’ and incorporated them into his first-team squad.
The ‘Class of ‘92’ is arguably the most prolific example of up-and-coming United players at the time who made real names for themselves under Ferguson.
Ferguson oversaw the likes of United legends David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes as they became key players under him during the 1990s and 2000s.
The United legend, who is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time, bowed out of the Old Trafford dugout for the final time in 2013.
Ferguson engineered a whopping 13 Premier League title wins for the Red Devils, including the club’s last triumph in the 2012-13 campaign.
Ferguson’s message for Man Utd youth
Manchester United have struggled to climb back to the top of English football in the aftermath of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
However, the Premier League club has continued its tradition of developing youth players and bringing them through to the United first team.
United manager Ruben Amorim has the likes of Toby Collyer, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo among his squad options after all impressing at youth level.
Ferguson was at Old Trafford last Saturday and took part in the annual ‘Celebration Event,’ which recognises the achievements of academy players on and off the pitch.
United writer and presenter Harry Robinson posted on X, formerly Twitter, that Ferguson met and spoke with current academy players at the event last week.
He added that the former Aberdeen and United boss stressed the importance of “sacrifice, work hard and practice” as part of succeeding in life.
“Sir Alex Ferguson met and spoke with current Academy players at Old Trafford today,” Robinson wrote.
“‘Sacrifice, work hard and practice,’ was his key advice. ‘It’s the defeats that make you.’

United’s official website confirmed that Red Devils legends Bryan Robson and Wayne Rooney were both in attendance for the annual Celebration Event at Old Trafford.
During a Q&A, Ferguson insisted that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of legendary former United manager Sir Matt Busby by developing youth players.
“It was easy at Manchester United,” he said.
“All I had to go back to was the 1950s and Sir Matt Busby, producing fantastic players and team.
“That was the motivation, for me to carry on what Sir Matt did. He made this club — there’s absolutely no question about that.
“I just followed on. And it was a joy, to see young players coming through like they did.”
