Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag presented Newport County boss Graham Coughlan with a special present chosen by Sir Alex Ferguson after their FA Cup encounter.

Erik ten Hag’s men punched their ticket to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 4-2 victory over League Two side Newport County at the Rodney Parade.

However, Newport County caused quite the scare for Manchester United in the fourth-round clash after they came from two down to level the scores.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo fired United into the lead inside the opening 15 minutes of Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Newport County.

Graham Coughlan’s men rallied back and were level at 2-2 only two minutes into the second half, but United ultimately walked away with the win on the night.

Antony and Rasmus Hojlund both scored in the second half to ensure that Ten Hag’s men progressed to the next stage of the competition.

United will now face the winner of Nottingham Forest vs Bristol City, who will play in a fourth-round replay next month, away from home in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Ten Hag’s present to Coughlan

Following the FA Cup clash at the Rodney Parade, footage emerged on X, formerly Twitter, of a heartfelt exchange involving Erik ten Hag and Graham Coughlan.

The Manchester United manager handed Coughlan a £200 bottle of Antinori Tignanello, which was a present personally recommended by Sir Alex Ferguson.

“We have a small gift for you,” Ten Hag said to Coughlan.

Responding to Ten Hag, Coughlan hilariously said: “Brilliant. You know I don’t drink wine, I drink Budweiser.”

Ten Hag added: “Really, Budweiser? American beer?

“But this is a really very good one chosen by Sir Alex, so maybe your wife will enjoy it.

“Maybe take a taste, I think you will like it. Well done for tonight.”

Ten Hag welcomes United’s FA Cup win

Ten Hag welcomed the result for United and the Red Devils remain in contention for major silverware this season after their FA Cup progression.

The Dutchman fell short of the FA Cup trophy last season after United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at Wembley in the final.

Despite the fightback from Newport County in the match, Ten Hag insisted that the League Two side did “nothing” against United in the FA Cup tie.

“We had very good chances and they had nothing,” he told the BBC.

“Really nothing and then out of nothing they score a goal.”
