Marcus Rashford has been praised for ‘letting his football do the talking’ as the much-criticised Manchester United forward opened the scoring in Thursday’s 4-3 Premier League win at Wolves.
Marcus Rashford opening the scoring at Molineux, silencing his doubters after a recent disciplinary issue? Yeah, we’ve been here before.
One year after he scored the winner during a nervy 1-0 triumph in the Black Country – dropped to the bench after turning up late for a team meeting – Manchester United’s number ten ensured that history would repeat itself for all the right seasons upon his return to Wolverhampton.

Marcus Rashford scores in Manchester United win
Rashford, who was left out against Newport County in the FA Cup amid major consternation surrounding his off-field antics, responded in ideal fashion away to Gary O’Neil’s sharp-toothed Wolves four days later.
He flew out of the blocks and opened the scoring inside just five minutes.
“That’s how to do it. That’s what you do,” says Simon Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman speaking on talkSPORT (2 February, 10am).
“Let your football do the talking.”
Rashford certainly did that. And Jadon Sancho could learn a thing or two about the way his England international team-mate responded to a period of adversity. While Sancho took to social media to air his grievances and refused to apologise to his boss despite mounting pressure to do so, Rashford – to borrow a phrase from an official Man United statement – ‘took responsibility’ for his own actions before repaying Ten Hag’s faith where and when it matters.
Rashford does what Sancho didn’t
“I am not surprised Ten Hag played him. He said he took responsibility, a direct broadside at Sancho by the way,” Jordan adds.
“(Rashford) should be playing at the highest level and scoring goals, and that’s what he did. Far too often in society we pat people on the back for the bare minimum. But you can’t put things to bed better (than he did at Molineux).”
The Carrington academy graduate is slowly and quietly rediscovering his touch for the Red Devils after a fraught start to the campaign. Rashford has now either scored or assisted a goal in five successive games in all competitions.
