Simon Jordan convinced 48-year-old won’t replace Ten Hag at Manchester United

Graham Potter has been linked with the Manchester United job but a former Premier League chairman cannot see the ex-Chelsea boss replacing Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

And, if he knows what is good for him, Graham Potter should probably steer clear.

That ill-fated spell at Chelsea was, after all, something of a crash course in life at a dysfunctional top-six club, and a man so admired for the sterling work he did at Brighton and Hove Albion could be forgiven if he takes the ‘once bitten twice shy’ approach amid reports linking him with a new, potentially even greater, challenge start at the all-consuming pit that is Manchester United.

Graham Potter for Manchester United?

The Sun believe that Potter’s name is likely to be in the frame should Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is expected to take over the football side of things at United, come to the conclusion that Erik Ten Hag cannot turn around a sinking ship.

Sir Dave Brailsford, Ratcliffe’s long-serving right-hand man, wanted Potter at their French-based outfit Nice.

But, speaking to talkSPORT (3 November, 11am), Simon Jordan was quick to cast doubt on suggestions that Ten Hag’s job could be under threat from the Solihull-born 48-year-old.

“No (Potter will not be in the frame for Man United). Not at all. You can make a case for Graham Potter to have a Premier League job. (But) do I think he is a top six manager? Probably not,” the one-time Crystal Palace chief argues.

Man United icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in his interview with Talk TV host and motor-mouth rent-a-quote Piers Morgan, suggested that Ten Hag simply doesn’t have the experience to cope with an ego-filled Old Trafford dressing room amid fall-outs with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

Jordan does not share Ibrahimovic’s stance, however, highlighting the outstanding job Ten Hag did at Ajax. The biggest, most expectant club in the Netherlands.

Erik ten Hag has United’s backing for now

“There was an argument made by Ibrahimovic recently about Ten Hag having not experienced managing big players. But he managed the Dutch team who had expectations,” Jordan adds.

“And even he is struggling with the Man United situation. What chance would Graham Potter have?”
