New Manchester United signing Sergio Reguilon has admitted speaking to David De Gea before securing his move from Tottenham Hotspur.
United went into the market for a left back before the transfer deadline, a situation few could have predicted at the end of last season.
United needed another option and went into the market for a loan signing who could potentially move on in January.
The deal has a break clause, meaning Reguilon could be sent back to Tottenham in the New Year.
Sergio Reguilon admits David De Gea conversations
Reguilon trained with United on Friday and Saturday before being included in the squad to face Arsenal on Sunday.
The former Real Madrid man wasn’t called upon but will give United another option moving forward.
MORE UNITED STORIES
De Gea left United this summer but still keeps the club close to his heart, as seen with his message to Reguilon just a couple of days ago.
Reguilon now admits that he spoke ‘a lot’ with De Gea before signing for United.
De Gea told him that United are the ‘best club in England’ with Reguilon adamant that he will always be a legend at Old Trafford, despite his summer exit.
“I spoke a lot with David and he told me about the club,” said Reguilon. “He told me you are coming to the best club in England. All these players [like De Gea] are legends over in Spain, because I follow a lot of the Premier League.”
“David will always be a legend here and he told me about the club, the people that are here, the training ground, the stadium, the fans… everything. He said they are amazing, unbelievable. He only has amazing words for Manchester United,” he added.
How many games have De Gea and Reguilon played together?
De Gea and Reguilon know each other from the Spanish national team setup but they haven’t played as many games together as you might expect.
They have only played together twice, with both games coming against Ukraine in 2020.
Their first game together ended in a 4-0 Spain victory, but they followed that up with a 1-0 away defeat in Ukraine.
De Gea and Reguilon seem to have struck up a great bond despite their limited on-pitch minutes together and that seems to have been a factor in the left back’s move to United.
De Gea may have moved on from United but he will still be cheering on Reguilon as he looks to get his career back on track at Old Trafford.
