Senne Lammens identifies lack of attacking sharpness as key issue in Man Utd’s draw against West Ham

Manchester United were held to a point against West Ham, leading to disappointment for goalkeeper Senne Lammens after a four-game win streak came to an end.

Senne Lammens is one of the first names in the Manchester United line-up after arriving on transfer deadline day at the beginning of the 2025/26 season.

Although it has been a topsy-turvy campaign for the Red Devils, leading to Ruben Amorim’s sacking at the beginning of January, Lammens has performed superbly between the sticks.

The 23-year-old has been a huge upgrade over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, with the former set to be sold when he returns from a loan spell at Trabzonspor in the summer.

Carrick hasn’t had to think twice about making any changes to his goalkeeper, with Lammens keeping two clean sheets in five games since the 44-year-old returned to Old Trafford as head coach until the end of the season.

Lammens missed out on the opportunity to keep another clean sheet when United drew 1-1 against West Ham in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Senne Lammens reflects on West Ham 1-1 Man Utd

Lammens made two important saves against West Ham, but the young Belgian was ‘disappointed’ with the overall performance and failure to make it five consecutive wins.

It was a busy evening for Lammens in terms of touches (29) on the ball, but there was little he could do when Tomas Soucek scored as West Ham took advantage of Luke Shaw’s shoddy defending.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News after the match, Lammens identified the lack of sharpness in United’s attack as the key issue behind the draw.

Lammens urged the attacking department to create more chances after a lacklustre first half in London.

“Still a bit disappointed and felt like we didn’t really play the way we should have, especially in the first half, we didn’t create as much,” Lammens said.

“I think we needed to be more sharp with the ball.

“We needed to create more. Of course, when you score in the end and still get a point, it’s always a bit better, but still, the overall feeling is a bit disappointing for us.”

Is Senne Lammens actually Manchester United’s best signing of the season?

United have Everton away in their next Premier League game, when Carrick will be aiming to get back to winning ways.

It’s crucial for United’s Champions League qualification attempts that they get another set of three points on the board when they take on David Moyes’ side.

Report shares Senne Lammens insight

Steven Railston from the Manchester Evening News conducted the post-match interview with Lammens following the draw with West Ham.

It wasn’t the first time Railston had interviewed Lammens, with the reporter impressed by the maturity shown by the United stopper.

In a post on X, Railston wrote: “I’ve spoken to Senne Lammens at Anfield, the Emirates and the London Stadium. He’s taken the initiative, accepting requests to speak on each occasion. You wouldn’t know he’s 23. Speaks with impressive maturity and will be a leader in the dressing room for years to come.”
