Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is leading preparations for the team’s competitive return to action.
The Scotland international started both warm-up games against Cadiz and Real Betis, playing 45 minutes in each fixture.
Upon return to Manchester, McTominay has been pictured bulking up in the gym, dubbing his post, ‘recovery’.
McTominay will be expected to play a lead role when Manchester United return to action, beginning with the Carabao Cup tie with Burnley on December 21.
He has already won over manager Erik ten Hag, but has lost his place to Casemiro since the Brazilian settled in.
Casemiro will be due back at United soon after Brazil’s elimination, but McTominay is fresh and clearly eager for action.

After a rusty display against Cadiz, McTominay was impressive against Real Betis, giving some real structure to United’s young midfield, partnered with Zidane Iqbal and Isak Hansen-Aaroen.
It’s possible United could get Christian Eriksen back in time for the Burnley game to renew partnership with McTominay.
Erik ten Hag will be mindful that despite his players being set to return from Qatar, there could be some drop-off in from if they take some time to re-acclimatise to club football, mentally and physically.
It is helpful to have McTominay completely fresh – and he looks set on being keen to continue to get stronger and better.
