Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw injury update given by Ten Hag

Manchester United could benefit from a double injury boost this weekend, Erik ten Hag has confirmed.

Both Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw are potentially in line to return against Nottingham Forest.

McTominay was absent from the squad against Sevilla, and Luke Shaw missed the last two matches.

Ten Hag says he can’t guarantee, but he is hopeful about the pair’s potential return.

Shaw and McTominay updates

Speaking to his press conference, Erik ten Hag said he was optimistic the pair could make their comebacks.

He said: “We now have two sessions to go of training so I don’t know by now, but it can be that Scott and Luke return in the squad, but I’m not sure.”

Ten Hag said earlier this week that he expected Shaw back at short notice.

Casemiro’s return from suspension makes McTominay less necessary, but he was in good form, starring against Everton a week ago, named in the BBC Team of the Week.

Luke Shaw’s comeback would be particularly helpful, considering his ability to play centre-back as well as left-back.

I suspect he may still be saved as a substitute against Nottingham Forest, with crucial games against Sevilla and Brighton to follow.

But if Ten Hag is confident Shaw can stand up to start all three, he won’t hesitate. The versatile defender will have a big role to play.

Regarding Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane’s injuries, Ten Hag said there was nothing further he could add until they had undergone scans.
