Only one Manchester United star was named in the BBC Team of the Week after the 2-0 win over Everton.

Remarkably it was not fan voted man of the match Bruno Fernandes who was selected in the BBC Team of the Week.

Instead of Fernandes it was Scott McTominay selected, who scored the opening goal and his first Premier League strike of the season.

McTominay’s goal was eventually doubled by Anthony Martial in the second half as United wrapped up the three points.

Scott McTominay praised

Scott McTominay played all 90 minutes of Manchester United’s win on Saturday lunchtime in the bask of the Old Trafford sunshine.

He has started all three games since the international break and has temporarily at least, won back the favour of manager Erik ten Hag.

McTominay was selected in the BBC Team of the Week, with pundit Garth Crooks praising his overall contribution.

He said: “Against the Toffees he demonstrated an authority I hadn’t seen before.

“He didn’t just stop the opposition from playing – a feature in his game he is rather good at – but he also made Manchester United play, which he normally leaves to the likes of Fernandes.

“It seemed as though McTominay was no longer prepared to play second fiddle to Fernandes, or anyone else, and took matters into his own hands – and about time.”

McTominay divides opinions among United supporters, he has struggled to hold down a regular spot this season. However, there was nothing negative to say about his performance against Everton.

He created three goalscoring chances and scored from one of his two efforts at goal, touching the ball 71 times.

His passing was simple and effective, with 88 per cent complete, and he won four of four aerial duels.
