Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has dropped huge praise on Kobbie Mainoo and insisted that the Red Devils star has big potential at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo has been a shining light for Manchester United fans this season after impressing on his first Premier League start against Everton last November.

The 18-year-old United midfielder, who missed the beginning of the season due to injury, has become a regular starter under Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag.

Mainoo has earned high praise this season over his influence in the United midfield, with Rio Ferdinand even comparing his qualities to one AC Milan legend.

Ferdinand’s ex-United teammate Roy Keane has dropped the ultimate compliment on Mainoo amid the Stockport-born player’s breakthrough season at the club.

Mainoo opened his goalscoring account at senior level for United last month after finding the back of the net in the 4-2 win against Newport County in the FA Cup.

The United star also made his presence felt in his side’s thrilling 4-3 away win against Wolves, with Mainoo scoring the winner in injury time at the Molineux last week.

Giggs’ verdict on Man Utd star Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo has made nine Premier League appearances for Manchester United this season, with the youth academy product starting in all nine fixtures.

Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the United midfielder and spoke highly of his development, including his emergence in the club’s first team.

Ryan Giggs, who praised one of Mainoo’s teammates last month, was asked for his thoughts on the England Under-19s international and his impact at Old Trafford.

The 50-year-old former Wales manager praised Mainoo’s spacial awareness and how composed the youngster appears when he is playing on the pitch for United.

“Yeah, I mean, he looks like one of them players who as soon as the ball comes to him he’s got it sorted,” he told the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel.

“You know, he knows where… he’s aware of where the spaces, he’s aware if he’s getting closed down, whether he needs to take one touch just around the corner or take a few more touches.”

Giggs on Mainoo and Casemiro

Mainoo has started United’s last three Premier League matches across all competitions alongside Casemiro, who returned from injury last month.

Casemiro, who was widely hailed for his impact at United last season, was previously ruled out of action after he suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle.

Giggs, who broke his silence on a return to management, admitted he was keen to see what Casemiro would bring to Mainoo’s style of play after his return from injury.

The United legend added that Mainoo has been “brilliant” this season and believes that the Red Devils youngster can only become “better” for his side.

“It’ll be interesting to see him once Casemiro comes back,” Giggs continued.

“Him and Casemiro in midfield. I think he’ll be even better with that experience next to him because the midfielders he’s had around him probably haven’t got the experience – and the quality – that would complement Mainoo even more so.

“So, I think he’s been brilliant this season. Like you say, he looks like he’s been there for years and I think he can only get better, to be honest.”
