One Manchester United player under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford has spoken out about the importance of the “personalities and characters” in the first-team squad.
Ruben Amorim’s men will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when the Red Devils host Manchester City at Old Trafford for the Manchester derby.
The Red Devils will head into the Premier League clash with Manchester City on the back of Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at City Ground on Tuesday.
Anthony Elanga made the difference against Amorim’s side and United were left chasing the match against Forest after going behind in only the fifth minute.
United languish in 13th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils have only picked up 10 league wins from 30 matches in the 2024-25 campaign.
The Red Devils are on course for their worst league finish in the Premier League era and United’s hopes of finishing in a European qualification spot are bleak right now.
However, lifting the Europa League trophy would offer Amorim major silverware as United manager and a route back to the Champions League for next season.

Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund makes his position clear on his struggles under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford
Rasmus Hojlund has struggled in his second season at Old Trafford and the Manchester United striker has faced heavy criticism over his lack of consistency.
The 22-year-old Danish forward has only netted eight times and picked up four assists in 40 matches across all competitions for United in the 2024-25 campaign.
However, Ruben Amorim has kept faith with Rasmus Hojlund amid his run of form, and the United star has now spoken out about the “pressure” that he has faced.
The Denmark and United striker insisted that he reminds himself about his “long career” ahead of himself and to “stay calm and focused” on what he needs to do.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Hojlund said: “It’s important you got these personalities and characters in and around the team who can help you and, yeah, we got loads of them in our team as well.”
The Denmark international added: “I think it’s good to have pressure. I think it’s nice.
“But then again, I remind myself that I still have a long career ahead of me and I’m trying to stay calm and focused both in good periods but also in lesser periods.”
Ruben Amorim was also criticised for his handling of Rasmus Hojlund at Man Utd
Clinton Morrison was critical of Amorim’s call to drop Rasmus Hojlund and play Joshua Zirkzee ahead of him for United’s match against Nottingham Forest.
The former Crystal Palace striker told Sky Sports: “Crazy. It’s crazy. Hojlund scored last time out against Leicester [City], and you want him to get confidence, but you just put him on the bench and put Zirkzee in.
“I don’t get it with Ruben Amorim, I totally don’t get it.
“We’re critical of Hojlund; he gets a good goal against Leicester and you’re thinking his confidence will be sky-high.
“I know he might have a different game plan, but it’s not good for the centre-forward in Hojlund. I don’t like that.”
United and Manchester City’s Premier League showdown is slated for kick-off at 4:30pm UK time on Sunday.
