Amorim is looking to beat City for the third time this season after Sporting Lisbon demolished City in Amorim’s final Champions League game in Portugal.

After that, United beat City 2-1 at The Etihad with Amad Diallo scoring a last-gasp winner. However, Amorim will be without two key players who changed the game back in December.

Ruben Amorim without Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martinez

United stole all three points from their arch-rivals back in December after two very late goals.

Bruno Fernandes scored from the penalty spot in the 88th minute, and just two minutes later Amad Diallo spectacularly latched onto a floated pass and tucked the ball past an on-rushing Ederson.

Amorim helped orchestrate the winner, screaming at Lisandro Martinez from the sidelines to try and find Amad’s run.

United’s World Cup winner played an inch-perfect pass, but Amorim will be without both Amad and Martinez for Sunday’s derby clash.

Martinez has undergone surgery for an ACL injury so will miss the remainder of the season. There has been positive news on Amad’s injury, but he will not recover from his ankle setback in time for Sunday’s match.

Man United injury news ahead of Man City clash

Unfortunately for Amorim, Martinez and Amad are not the only players set to miss the derby on Sunday.

Ayden Heaven is aiming for a quick return after suffering a nasty injury against Leicester City before the international break.

Mason Mount returned to action against Nottingham Forest, as did Leny Yoro after his short setback. Amorim also provided an update on Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo – who should both be in contention to face City.

As for City, Erling Haaland could miss the derby after sitting out of Manchester City’s clash against Leicester midweek.
