BBC pundit Robbie Savage has praised the standout Manchester United star under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford and waxed lyrical about his influence on the team.

Ruben Amorim’s men played their last match of March on Sunday evening and Manchester United convincingly beat Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.

United took the first-half lead against Leicester City after Bruno Fernandes played Rasmus Hojlund through and the Denmark striker broke his goalscoring drought.

Amorim’s side were 1-0 up at half-time before the Red Devils turned their performance up a notch after the break against the Foxes on the weekend.

Bruno Fernandes picked up his second assist after he set up Alejandro Garnacho before the United captain added his name to the scoresheet late in the second half.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men showed their defensive fragilities against United and the Premier League strugglers were outclassed by the Red Devils on the night.

Robbie Savage baffled by criticism of Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes after Leicester City match

Bruno Fernandes once again showed his incredible importance to the Manchester United first team under Ruben Amorim ahead of the March international break.

The 30-year-old United skipper ensured the Red Devils’ place in the Europa League quarter-finals after his sensational performance against Real Sociedad last Thursday.

Fernandes scored a stunning hat-trick to ensure that United beat 10-man Real Sociedad 4-1 at Old Trafford in their second-leg round-of-16 Europa League tie.

The United and Portugal midfielder has arguably been the Red Devils’ best signing in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era and carried the club on his back at times.

Fernandes has also been met with heavy criticism, including United legend Roy Keane dropping a scathing assessment of the Portugal international.

Speaking to Football365, Robbie Savage admitted that he is baffled at the criticism that has been thrown at Fernandes considering his influence on the United team.

“Manchester United wrapped a positive week with another win,” he said.

“Yes, it was just Leicester – more on them to come – but Bruno Fernandes once more highlighted his quality.

“Only Erling Haaland and Mo Salah have been involved in more goals this season, and Bruno is playing in United’s worst-ever Premier League side.

“I don’t understand the grief he gets. Take him out of that United team, and then you would see how important he is.”

Ruben Amorim’s eye-opening assessment of Bruno Fernandes after Leicester City vs Man Utd

Speaking after United’s win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, Amorim insisted that Bruno Fernandes doesn’t need a rest and can “recover quite well.”

“No, I don’t feel that [needing a rest] in Bruno,” he said.

“He’s a special guy in that aspect. He’s always ready. He can recover quite well. I don’t know [about] the future.

“I am just reading what the performance department tell me [about the numbers] and then what I see in the game.

“So, I always see a Bruno that is dangerous, and one Bruno that can recover in every situation. So, he’s going to stay there.”

United will return to Premier League action after the March international break when they visit City Ground to face Nottingham Forest on 1st April.
