Ruben Amorim has been told that he faces a “very tough” task ahead of him at Old Trafford after Manchester United’s 3-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton.
The 39-year-old Manchester United manager has faced a tall order at the Red Devils after he replaced Erik ten Hag as Red Devils head coach in 2024.
Ruben Amorim oversaw a disappointing end to 2024 with United, with the Red Devils losing four consecutive matches across all competitions last December alone.
United appeared to turn the leaf at the beginning of 2025 after the Red Devils won two of their first three matches across all competitions.
Amorim’s men picked up a 2-2 Premier League draw against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month before knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup at the Emirates.
United then engineered a late 3-1 comeback win against Premier League strugglers Southampton at Old Trafford last Thursday before their encounter with Brighton.

Manchester United underwhelmed with their showing against Southampton and the Red Devils were rescued by a stunning late hat-trick from Amad Diallo.
However, not even Amad Diallo was able to singlehandedly carry the Red Devils against Brighton and the Seagulls picked up a convincing win on Sunday afternoon.
United languish in 13th place after Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton and the Red Devils are currently 10 points clear of the relegation zone after 22 matches played.
Gordon Hill took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and dropped his two cents on United’s performance against Premier League side Brighton.
The 70-year-old former United winger insisted that Ruben Amorim will “struggle” with his tactical system with the current crop of first-team players at his disposal.
“I have just watched [Man] Utd and it does not matter how Amorim sets his team up, he will struggle with this group of players, no matter what positions he plays them,” Hill wrote.
“He must have played everyone, and still has not got a settled side. A very tough job ahead.”
In a follow-up tweet, Hill wrote: “Let me say something. You can only play a system if you have the players to play it, we have seen him try everything, and everyone which should tell you his players are not, he will have to shift players in order to bring in his type of player.”

Amorim will now switch his attention away from the Premier League to the Europa League for United’s encounter with Rangers at Old Trafford on Thursday.
United face their next test in the Premier League on Sunday with an away trip to Craven Cottage for their clash with Fulham.
Gordon Hill added that United’s biggest problem for unlocking Amorim’s system is their need to “balance the books” by selling players first before they can buy.
“Now here is the problem, in order to balance the books, you have to sell, before you can buy,” he said.
“But the players you want gone are on too much money, so clubs cannot afford them, which is a board decision to sort out, that is where the problem is in my eyes.”
