Ruben Amorim has been unable to win back-to-back games in the Premier League since becoming Manchester United’s head coach, with consistency being one of the biggest issues facing his side.
Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford was disappointing for several reasons. The performance was lacklustre, and it spoiled a glorious chance for Ruben Amorim to record consecutive Premier League wins for the first time.
That tells you United have struggled to find consistency throughout Amorim’s reign as head coach.
However, United face a high-flying Sunderland on Saturday.

The Black Cats are enjoying their return to the top flight after winning three of their first six Premier League matches of the season.
Amorim will be demanding a response from his team before they take a break for the October round of internationals.

Ruben Amorim explains why Man Utd are not consistent
It has been a long time since United fans were satisfied with the team’s results.
Erik ten Hag was sacked after winning two trophies in two and a half years at United, but Ineos eventually got their man in Amorim, which is their biggest reason for affording him more time than he would get at other top clubs.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has pledged his patience with Amorim, but that could be tested if results don’t pick up in the coming months.
During Friday’s press conference, Amorim was asked about United’s lack of consistency ahead of the Premier League meeting with Sunderland.
“We already talk about that, if you see during the six games during this season we are not always the same team in small things,” Amorim told reporters. “More in the way we play.
“All the effort that we put, the maximum effort into every single thing. I think it’s not the same in different matches. We have to find that balance – it will change everything for us.”
One position lacking balance this season has been central midfield, with Casemiro expected to return to the line-up against Sunderland.
Ruben Amorim remains bullish on his system
Every week, Amorim is quizzed on his system.
From the decision to play a back three to overlooking Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, there is no shortage of talking points when it comes to United.
Amorim has now been asked whether the players understand his system.
He replied: “It was [disjointed against Brentford], but you cannot say one thing doesn’t work, when it works one weekend. When things work one day and the other doesn’t. It is something about the way we do the same thing. We need to do the same thing, in the same way, every way, and we are not doing it the same every day. Some of you guys have a different opinion, but that’s ok.”
