Ruben Amorim has provided a Manchester United fitness update ahead of the match with Southampton.

Diogo Dalot will miss Manchester United’s match at home to Southampton due to suspension.

It is not the only change Ruben Amorim may have to make for the clash, amid fallout from the win over Arsenal.

Harry Maguire has earned plaudits for his performance – but he was unable to complete the game.

Harry Maguire update

Ruben Amorim explained that while he might be able to select Harry Maguire against Southampton, it might not be the sensible call.

Amorim said: “Harry was sick in the last game. He was dead in the end – and that’s what I want from every player.

“[Playing against the Saints?] Harry, we will see. We cannot lose him, so we will see.”

He went on to add that he had no doubts over Lisandro Martinez.

Leny Yoro is pushing for game time, so it works out well to give him a start in the back three and rest Maguire, with a match to follow on Sunday.

Luke Shaw and Mason Mount

The long-term absentees at Manchester United are injury-prone stars Luke Shaw and Mason Mount, who both returned late in 2024, only to break down with fresh problems again.

Amorim says one of the pair is closer than the other, but does not want to offer a too specific date on a return.

He said: “Luke Shaw is nearer than Mason Mount.

“Mason Mount will take a little bit longer. Luke, we’ll see in the next week or two. We’ll see if he’s returning.”

Amorim is confident Mount will return this season – but it would appear he is still a way off.
