Ruben Amorim has explained why it was best for Marcus Rashford to leave Manchester United in January.
It has been clear since December that Marcus Rashford is not part of Ruben Amorim’s plans at Manchester United.
Rashford, 27, played in the Portuguese’s first six matches but was dropped for the Manchester derby victory, along with Alejandro Garnacho. The difference here is Garnacho put his head down and gradually worked his way back into United’s first-team.
The England international revealed after the derby that was ready for a new challenge.
Rashford’s last game for United came in the Europa League against Viktoria Plzen on December 12. Then, weeks of speculation led to Rashford joining Aston Villa instead of clubs like AC Milan and Barcelona.

Rashford couldn’t see eye-to-eye with Amorim
The loan deal includes an option to make the move permanent for a reported £40 million.
This valuation highlights Rashford’s fall from grace as a footballer. It’s something will hope to address by performing strongly at Villa Park.
Otherwise, Rashford can forget about his dream move to Barcelona.
Amorim has explained why he couldn’t work with Rashford but he still hopes that the player enjoys a better relationship with Villa boss Unai Emery.
“I couldn’t put Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” Amorim told reporters at his press conference on Thursday.
“And sometimes you have one player that is really good with one coach, and the same player with another coach is different.
“I just wish the best to Rashford and to Unai Emery, and they can connect because he’s a very good player.”
The reporters pushed Amorim further by asking whether Rashford said that he did not agree with Amorim’s ideas about football. Amorim replied: “You know, like me, that it’s not the way that occurs.
“It’s something that you feel as a coach and as a player. It’s quite normal. It happened a lot of coaches.
“The important thing is that I’m here saying that was my decision, like Ty [Malacia] and Antony was my decision to do these loans, and to keep some players even without any transfers.”
Time for Rashford to move on
There has been a lot of noise surrounding Rashford in recent months. It doesn’t help the team, but at least now that he’s gone, Amorim can focus on the players he has available to select from.
Amorim went on to push aside talk of a potential return for Rashford.
“Guys, in the summer… like we said before, we are fighting for our jobs until the summer,” Amorim added.
“So, I am just focused on these games. Thankfully about Marcus he is in Birmingham now with Unai, so you can take these questions to another coach. We are just focused on our players at the moment.”
United are in action tonight when they take on Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round.
