Ruben Amorim is keeping a positive mindset about Manchester United’s chances this season after ending 2025 with a disappointing draw at home to Wolves.
Manchester United drew 1-1 with Wolves on Tuesday night as Ruben Amorim’s side failed to collect six points from one of the worst teams in Premier League history.
Rob Edwards’ side came to Old Trafford on a run of 11 successive Premier League defeats, which explains why they are sitting at the bottom of the table with three points after 19 fixtures.
A first-half opener by Joshua Zirkzee was cancelled out on the brink of half-time through Ladislav Krejci as the two teams drew 1-1 just three weeks on from United’s 4-1 win at Molineux.

What went wrong for United?
Three of the goalscorers that night were absent on Tuesday night as Amorim was left without eight of his players due to AFCON and injuries.
Amorim must ensure that United’s latest setback doesn’t push them back further mentally because the team must quickly dust themselves off in the New Year with a trip to Leeds on the agenda this weekend.

Ruben Amorim ‘confident’ about Man Utd potential
The United head coach stressed he remains ‘confident’ about his team’s potential this season, after dropping two points against Wolves.
It was a turgid performance at home against a side that has not been performing since the beginning of the season.
The result will come as a setback, as United continue to push for one of the Champions League spots.
Amorim was asked about his feelings towards United’s chances midway through the season.
“I’m really confident,” Amorim said during his press conference with reporters on Tuesday night.
“We just need to recover all the players, and I’m really confident.
“I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the season. Then we will make the resume of the season.
“But I’m really confident when we recover all the players that we are going to be a strong team. There are no doubts in my mind.”

United’s first test of 2026 takes place at Elland Road when Amorim’s side travels to face Leeds on Sunday.
The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League after missing out on the chance to take advantage of Aston Villa and Chelsea dropping points on Tuesday night.
Ineos will have an objective to get back into European competition, but that will be a difficult task unless United can find some consistency in 2026.
Ruben Amorim’s fitness principle could prove costly
Amorim has always been strict when it comes to players returning from knocks and injuries.
To United’s benefit, the team has suffered fewer muscle injuries than when Erik ten Hag was in charge. They happened frequently under the Dutchman.
Amorim appears to take fewer risks when it comes to his players, preferring to wait until they are deemed ready to go by his coaching staff. He joked that Bruno Fernandes wanted to play against Wolves before stressing that the club captain wouldn’t be risked for the fixture.
Perhaps there will come a time when Amorim will prioritise United’s results because otherwise the confidence he has this season will disappear.
