Harry Maguire has become a key player under Ruben Amorim and recently scored the winner in a dramatic win over Liverpool at Anfield.
Few players bounce back like Harry Maguire. There was a time when the Manchester United centre-back got mocked by the masses, but now he is considered a crucial member of Ruben Amorim’s team.
Maguire joined United from Leicester City in 2019 and dealt with lots of criticism after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave him the captain’s armband. That decision was later revoked by Erik ten Hag before Maguire gradually improved with less pressure on his shoulders.
Nowadays, Maguire is a leader in the dressing room, and there probably isn’t a more popular man in Manchester this week after his match-winner at Anfield last Sunday.
Maguire is out of contract in the summer, and questions are beginning to be asked whether he will be given a new deal before the end of the season.

Ruben Amorim responds to Harry Maguire contract talk
It’s amazing what a week can do. Maguire scored the winner against Liverpool, and we later talked about a new contract.
Maguire has not held any formal talks with United over a new deal and Amorim has stressed that there are other issues at their focus right now, such as winning football matches.
“We are really happy with Harry,” Amorim told reporters at his press conference.
“[It’s] not the time to talk about his contract. He is really important for us.”
United can make it three consecutive wins in the Premier League when they host Brighton on Saturday. Maguire picked up a knock in training and could miss the game.
Maguire is not only a solution in defence, but he has also got United out of trouble in many games with late winners. Finding a replacement who is equally dominant in the air won’t be an easy task for Ineos.
Harry Maguire benefits from back-three system
Amorim told reporters that he believes the back-three system suits Maguire.
The United head coach outlined his reasons for this by suggesting he doesn’t need to worry about the wide areas in defence. Maguire can focus on threats at the centre of defence.
Amorim stressed that Maguire is a “massive player” for United and he needs to continue in his current form.
“It was good for him to play with three centre backs so sometimes you help players with the way you play. I am really pleased. He is not young but he can learn a lot. He needs to be better with the ball. He is a massive player for us and he needs to continue.”
