Harry Maguire has become a key player under Ruben Amorim at Manchester United; however, his contract is set to expire next June.
The resurgence of Harry Maguire at Manchester United has been amazing to see, having gone from zero to hero in the space of 12 months.
Ruben Amorim triggered the one-year extension in Maguire’s contract last season, highlighting his importance. Following this, he justified the contract with several big goals.
However, Maguire’s contract expires in 2026 with no optional extra year. Maguire will be 33 by then, which means United have a big decision to make.

Latest on Harry Maguire’s contract at Manchester United
In an ideal world, Maguire would accept a drastic wage reduction in order to stay at United for another year or two, but this might not be how it works out, with many considerations to account for.
Speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, Andy Mitten has shared what he has heard about the situation.
“He’s free to talk to other clubs on the first of January”, Mitten explained. “The plus one was activated last year.
“He can leave for free at the end of the season. There’s been no talk at all. I’ve seen people say there have been talks, but there has been nothing formal.
“There are two sides to this. Maguire is settled in Manchester; he could’ve left two or three seasons ago, but chose to stay. I spoke to him in August, and he was just happy where he is.
“It will probably come down to money and how much do Manchester United want him. They will look at buying another defender, but does Harry stay on the same money or get offered a lesser contract? That’s for the people who make football decisions.”
Rio Ferdinand suggested that Maguire was becoming a legend for United, something which could very well influence Ineos into keeping the former captain around for his leadership and presence.
Harry Maguire loves Manchester United
The decision around Maguire is one that Ineos will already be weighing up, knowing his hero status within the fanbase, but also knowing that £190,000-a-week is too much for the aging centre-back.
However, Maguire has vocalised his love for United over the past week, which should mean he is eager to remain at the club even if that means taking a wage cut.
If United can get Harry Maguire to agree to a wage below £100,000-a-week, it would be a good decision to keep him around, with the Englishman aging like a fine wine.
Having Maguire around the club could never be a bad thing, and there would be no harm in having him take the Jonny Evans role in the next couple of years.
All parties will likely aim for a solution, and therefore, Maguire should get an extension at United.
