Ruben Amorim has given his Manchester United squad advice on using social media, after Amad Diallo was the subject of abuse over the last week.

The atmosphere was hostile at Old Trafford when Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League.

It was the fixture that marked the return of Alejandro Garnacho, for the first time since his summer move to Chelsea. The former United academy graduate was jeered by the home support every time he warmed up, despite not getting onto the pitch.

The Argentina international was a United fan favourite during his time at the club, but his relationship with supporters soured towards his departure.

While the fans gave Garnacho a frosty reception at Old Trafford last Saturday, Amad and Bruno Fernandes were both spotted hugging their former teammate.

Ruben Amorim advises Amad and other Man Utd players to ignore social media

Amad went one step further than Fernandes to acknowledge Garnacho last weekend.

The Ivory Coast international also posted a photo of himself posing with Garnacho’s Chelsea shirt alongside his former team-mate, who was holding up his United shirt.

Amad was abused by some supporters and reacted by deleting all his Instagram posts and all but one of his posts on X. According to The Sun, United checked on him on Monday and offered support.

Ruben Amorim was asked about the abuse Amad received before he advised all of his players to shut down social media. That way, they can ignore the backlash that exists on networks such as Instagram, X, YouTube, Facebook and TikTok.

“I say the same thing to my players – shut down social media,” Amorim told reporters at his press conference before United take on Brentford.

“It’s like that nowadays. It’s a price you have to pay. But the important thing is the club and his friends are real life for Amad. We are here for him.”

Amorim is of the view that those posting on social media are opening themselves up to criticism and abuse, due to the anonymous nature of the internet.

Amad will miss the game against Brentford due to a bereavement.

Amorim warns ‘difficult’ game against Brentford

Although Brentford haven’t had a good start to the season and appear to be missing Thomas Frank as manager, Amorim is expecting a battle at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Amorim has warned his players that it is going to be difficult against Brentford.

He added: “It’s really important. We talk about that in the end of the game. We need the sense of urgency that we need to win, no matter what. It’s going to be really difficult. Every time we start to prepare for the next game and watch the opponent, we think it’s going to be really tough.

“I have that feeling. But for me, we cannot control the game. The most important thing is to start the game like we did against Chelsea and Burnley. These kind of games, we need to be really focused and have the feeling of needing to win every match.”
