Roy Keane’s punditry is known for his cutting and incisive remarks which are as sharp as his tackling was.

But after Manchester United’s victory at Elland Road on Sunday, the former Red Devils skipper had only positive words for the team’s performance.

Keane had particular praise for United’s second half goalscorers Fred and Anthony Elanga.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Keane lauded Elanga for his late contribution, which made up for an earlier miss.

Keane said: “He’s a really good player very positive. Well deserved.”

Praise for Fred

The Irishman also had positive words for Fred, who helped turn the game back in United’s favour after replacing Paul Pogba at 2-2.

Keane said: “Fred has definitely improved his finishing and attacking play in the last few months.

“They made hard work of it but Manchester United were by far the better team.”

United had let go of a 2-0 lead for the score to be tied, before going on to win 4-2.

Similarly to the game at Old Trafford, Leeds’ equaliser came too early, with United having plenty of time to change around and win the game.

Fred now has a club best three goals this season, with two of them coming against Leeds.

Anthony Elanga now also has two for the season after coming into the first team over the past month.

The victory was a spirited performance in testing conditions at Elland Road, with United’s players having to dig in and prove their quality.

With substitutes Fred and Elanga on the scoresheet, manager Ralf Rangnick will have been the happiest man in Elland Road at full-time.

Keane backing for top four

United end the weekend in fourth place with a four point gap over fifth, although there are a number of teams around them with a game in hand.

Former skipper Keane believes United will end the season in the Champions League places.

He said: “I think United will be fine for fourth. Focus on the next few months, keep their heads, keep focusing and show quality like they did today.”
