Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane has opened up on his frustration at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after his fellow Manchester United legend’s huge miss in the Champions League.
Roy Keane captained Manchester United to an iconic treble win in 1999, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer famously scoring the winner in the Champions League final.
But the 52-year-old Irishman never lifted the Champions League trophy again in his career after United’s memorable 2-1 win over Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou.
Keane’s illustrious spell at Old Trafford came to an abrupt end in 2005 after Sir Alex Ferguson axed him from the club, with the ex-United star seeing out the rest of his career at Celtic.
However, the former United captain did come close to reaching another Champions League final at the Premier League club, only for the Red Devils to fall short.

Keane talks Solskjaer’s missed chance
During the 2001-02 Champions League campaign, Manchester United reached the knockout stage of the competition and defeated Deportivo La Coruna in the quarter-finals.
The Red Devils punched their ticket to the semi-finals and faced Bayer Leverkusen, with United playing out a 2-2 draw in the first leg at Old Trafford.
Roy Keane opened the scoring for United in the return leg before Oliver Neuville scored a crucial equaliser for Leverkusen in the semi-final clash.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came off the bench in the second half and the United legend had the opportunity to put his side 2-1 up, only to send his shot over the bar.
United crashed out of Europe after the draw in Germany and Leverkusen progressed to the final at Hampden Park to face Real Madrid, who lifted the Champions League trophy that season.
Speaking on the latest Stick to Football show, Keane admitted that he still reminds former United manager Solskjaer of the missed chance when he sees him in person.
“I know you have to move on, but Bayer Leverkusen – I can still see Ole’s chance in that game,” he said on The Overlap.
“I stood behind him, you’re asking a player who would you want to certainly hit the target – and Ole’s [hit it] over the bar.
“I bring it up when I see him now, I still mention the chance he missed!
“Forget how brilliant he was – I went, ‘f*****g hit the target!’”
Solskjaer regrets missed chance for Man Utd
Solskjaer has since admitted that his miss against Leverkusen is the one moment in his legendary United career that he has “thought about the most.”
The United legend also confirmed that Keane is still hilariously “mithering” him to this date about his missed chance when the pair speak to one another.
Speaking to Manchester United’s official website in 2021, Solskjaer said: “So, I’d probably just do the same again… except score a goal against Bayer Leverkusen in 2002!
“That chance… about 10 minutes before full-time… that’s the moment in my career that I’ve thought about the most, that miss.
“Ask Roy Keane as well… he keeps mithering me every time we talk to each other.
“He reminds me of that chance, but I just reply that for me it’s a good chance, but for him, there was absolutely no chance he would have scored that or any other… but that bothers me, that chance.
“We drew 2-2 at home, and we would have gone to the final in Glasgow. And we would have won it as well.”
