Roy Keane blasts Marcus Rashford for smiling during Manchester United warm-up
Roy Keane has put Marcus Rashford in his cross hairs for criticism after expressing dislike for the Manchester United forward’s pre-match warm-up.
Rashford has not scored in 12 Premier League starts this season, with all of his games coming from the bench.
He did start tonight against Chelsea at Old Trafford, but former club captain Keane said he was not impressed by what he spotted pre-game at Old Trafford.
Keane told Sky Sports: “Every time I see Marcus getting warmed up, he’s always smiling, I don’t like players smiling too much. You’re going to war. You’re fighting for your future!”
Keane had likened Rashford to playing ‘like a kid’ against Liverpool in the 4-0 defeat the previous week.
When Jamie Redknapp remarked Rashford needed ‘someone to light his fire again’, Keane responded: “That comes from within.
“You do that yourself Jamie, he’s 24 we still don’t know his best position.
“He’s been in the England squad a few times and lost his way a bit there, and at Man United, ‘what’s his best position?’. It’s a worrying sign.”
Rashford has five goals in all competitions, and was not named in the last England squad.
His form has been a hot topic of late, as well as his future, with his contract set to expire in 2023, although United do have an option to extend by a further year.
He will be hoping to turn around his fortunes under new boss Erik ten Hag, but ultimately his future lies in the hands of the Dutchman, who could arrive with a pre-conceived idea of whether he wants Rashford in his side or not.
