Rio Ferdinand thinks one Man Utd player has received so many phone calls after Thomas Tuchel announcement

Thomas Tuchel will not be the next Manchester United boss after the German was appointed as the new England manager on Wednesday.

Erik ten Hag remains in charge of Manchester United ahead of this weekend’s game against Brentford.

The Dutchman desperately needs a win this weekend though with United claiming just two victories from the first seven Premier League games.

Ineos discussed Ten Hag’s future over the international break but he is safe – for now at least.

Thomas Tuchel was thought to be a target with Sir Jim Ratcliffe understood to be an admirer of the German.

Tuchel will not be standing in the Old Trafford dugout any time soon though as he has now become the new England boss.

Rio Ferdinand on in-demand Manchester United player

Tuchel’s deal with The FA will see him lead England into the 2026 World Cup and rule him out of United contention.

The former Chelsea boss dodged questions about United in his introductory press conference but he has surely been spoken to by Ineos this year.

Tuchel will now be assessing a number of United players moving forward, including Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford.

However, Rio Ferdinand has now picked out one United player who may be receiving a few more calls than usual.

Midfielder Mason Mount was a Chelsea star under Tuchel and arguably showed his best form with the German at the helm.

Ferdinand has now stated on YouTube that he thinks Mount will have been contacted by a number of players who desperately want to know more about Tuchel.

Ferdinand knows ‘for a fact’ that Mount will have been one of the first players spoken to by England stars, believing that everybody in the squad will want to know if they are the kind of player Tuchel wants to coach.

“I know for a fact these players will be sitting there ringing each other saying ‘what’s he like?’. Mason, Mason Mount, what’s he like? Saka at his club with Kai Havertz, 100%, they’re calling these guys. Declan Rice will be doing the same,” said Ferdinand.

“They’ll be calling all of their mates who played under him and going ‘listen man, what was he like?’ and what type of player he wants, that’s what the conversations will be,” he added.

Mason Mount surely hopes for England return

Mount was hoping to kick on with his career after joining United in 2023.

United forked out up to £60million for Mount in the hope of seeing him thrive at Old Trafford.

That hasn’t quite worked out though with Mount struggling for form and fitness over the last year.

Mount has fallen out of the England squad as a result and was not part of the Euro 2024 squad.

Mount hasn’t even featured at all for England since losing out to France in the World Cup in 2022.

A route back into the England squad will not be easy but Tuchel knows how to get the best out of Mount.

If the playmaker can start showing his best form for United again, a Three Lions recall may well arrive.
