Rio Ferdinand says ‘massively disrespected’ Man Utd ace is ‘frustrated’ because his teammates aren’t doing their job

It is fair to say that not all is well at Manchester United, which would be the understatement of the century since they need to win against Ipswich to avoid a doomsday scenario.

Missing out on the Champions League was the doomsday scenario as early as the previous season but this year, the threat of getting engulfed in a genuine relegation battle is the one.

Naturally, this level of underperformance comes with frustration and intense scrutiny, both inside and outside the club.

Rio Ferdinand says that that level of scrutiny is particularly disrespectful towards one Man Utd man, who himself is frustrated at his teammates, leading to a negative spiral.

Not many players in the Man Utd squad have done nearly enough to escape all criticism from a wretched season that has the club breaking all sorts of wrong records.

However, Rio Ferdinand believes that even in this wreckage, club captain Bruno Fernandes has emerged with credit to his name.

Ferdinand reeled off Fernandes’ numbers before launching into a passionate defence of the Portuguese, laying the blame on his teammates for letting him down.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “Bruno [Fernandes] is massively disrespected. All this talk about him not being captain material is trying to look for negatives in his game.

“[Goals and assists] is what this guy comes and delivers. Some of the things he gets called out for, like his body language, are borne out of frustration, and not being helped.

“No player has created more chances since he signed for Man Utd in the Premier League. He’s doing his thing. You would be frustrated that the club is signing players that aren’t able to help. I actually feel sorry for him in a sense.”

Ferdinand might have some questionable takes at times but this one about Bruno Fernandes couldn’t be more clear and correct.

The United captain has been one of the few players who hasn’t used the change of managers and the organisational chaos as excuses to hide behind for his lack of good performances.

He always turns up, regardless of the formation, his position, the team’s form, or his teammates’ issues, and delivers and if he doesn’t, he dies trying.

Raw stats are just the cherry on the cake for the player who’s always running himself into the ground for his team regardless of what’s happening around him.

It would be a huge shame if his career at Man Utd ends without him lifting a major trophy and for that, he is right to be frustrated.
