Rio Ferdinand now wants Man Utd to sign Aurelien Tchouameni even more after Real Madrid drama

Manchester United have Aurelien Tchouameni placed high on the midfield revamp shortlist this summer, with Rio Ferdinand a fan of the Frenchman.

It was only in the past month that Manchester United’s interest in Aurelien Tchouameni became credible, with a move seemingly quite realistic.

Immediately, Rio Ferdinand supported signing Tchouameni, labelling the Real Madrid number 14 ‘commanding’ and claiming he had no concerns about the transfer.

But last week saw Tchouameni involved in a training ground altercation that left Federico Valverde in the hospital, which might have sown seeds of doubt.

Rio Ferdinand is not put off signing Aurelien Tchouameni

The situation seems to have been resolved, with Tchouameni starting in El Clásico, as Marcus Rashford sealed the title for Barcelona.

But some may see what happened behind the scenes last week as a red flag for Tchouameni, but not Rio Ferdinand.

Speaking on the Rio Presents YouTube channel, Ferdinand admitted he wants Tchouameni even more after the Real Madrid incident.

“Tchouameni having I think, allegedly, there’s been a bit of a fight in the training with Valverde, so that wouldn’t worry me one bit about him coming to Manchester United. I think I’ve seen a lot of people asking like does it worry you or concern you…” Ferdinand said.

“It makes me want him more!” Stephen Howson said.

“True, I want a bit of fight, I want a bit of aggression. I’ve met him, he’s a lovely guy, but put him into a 90 minutes, the guy can play, he can play, he can rattle a few, I really like Tchouameni, if we can get him, it would be an unbelievable signing,” Ferdinand said.

What are your thoughts on the ‘fights’ between Tchouameni and Valverde… does this present an opportunity for United? Or is this a bad omen for a transfer?

Manchester United need three midfielders this summer, and Tchouameni should be first

Much has been made of United’s long-awaited midfield overhaul, with Casemiro set to depart after this season ends, as his contract expires.

First and foremost will be directly replacing and upgrading Casemiro, which Tchouameni would be, offering the same defensive quality, only younger and more athletic.

Tchouameni and Kobbie Mainoo would be a brilliant pairing, but as United’s dismal showing against Sunderland proved, United need more.

Selling Ugarte will leave United with one senior midfielder before any arrivals, and so Tchouameni needs to be supplemented with two others.

Carlos Baleba seems locked in already, potentially for much cheaper than the £100m they wanted last summer. While the third could be Ederson, Mateus Fernandes, Joao Gomes, Alex Scott, or another cheaper but still quality option.
