Rio Ferdinand has praised one Manchester United star’s ability both “with and without the ball” after the Red Devils’ 2-1 comeback win against Manchester City.

Manchester United travelled to the Etihad on Sunday evening and Ruben Amorim’s men snatched all three Premier League points after a dramatic turnaround.

Ruben Amorim’s side were left chasing the match after Josko Gvardiol’s header in the first half was enough to separate the two sides in the first half.

Amad Diallo earned a penalty for United late in the second half and Bruno Fernandes subsequently stepped up and converted from the spot-kick at the Etihad.

Only two minutes after Josko Gvardiol’s first-half opener was cancelled out, United would defy the odds and took the lead against City in the Manchester derby.

Amad Diallo completed his show-stopping performance by toeing the ball over Ederson before the United winger coolly slotted the ball in the back of the net.

Sunday’s 2-1 result has left fifth-place City one point outside of the top four, while 13th-place United are six points adrift from fourth-place Nottingham Forest.

Ferdinand blown away by Man Utd star

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand dropped high praise on Amad Diallo after the win over Manchester City.

Amad has been arguably one of United’s standout performers this season and the winger has firmly established himself as a regular in the first team.

The Ivorian attacker has shown his incredible versatility for United, including seamlessly playing as a wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s formation.

Ferdinand has argued that Amad has shown why he is the “first name on the sheet” for United manager Amorim after praising the player’s “character.”

“The new manager’s come in, and I would go as far as to say he [Amad] is the first name on the sheet for this new manager and that’s a testament to this kid’s character,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“His will to change the tide and swing against the current and say to people, ‘No, no, you can’t leave me out. You can’t! I might be small in stature but I have the biggest heart. I’m going to run, I’m going to work and then I’m going to make decisive, great decisions when I’ve got it, I’m going to impact the game.’”

Ferdinand says Amad is real deal at Man Utd

Amad impressed during the pre-season tour in the summer, but the United winger was often left fighting for his place in the starting XI under Erik ten Hag.

However, he was able to show his true potential after Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager and was replaced by interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Amad has become a key player for Amorim after impressing under United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ferdinand has now spoken highly about Red Devils winger.

“With and without the ball, he’s been brilliant,” Ferdinand added.

“I think he’s a real footballer. I don’t think that was ever in doubt, everyone could see the talent. But they just didn’t see the other side of him when you look at him.”
