Rio Ferdinand waxed lyrical about the impact of three Manchester United players after Ruben Amorim’s men secured a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

Manchester United travelled away from home on Sunday evening for their first Premier League clash of 2025 and Ruben Amorim’s side impressed with their display.

Lisandro Martinez fired United into the lead in the second half before Liverpool star Cody Gakpo netted an equaliser for the Reds during the thrilling contest.

United were then placed on the back foot after Liverpool were awarded a penalty and Mohamed Salah beat Red Devils No 1 Andre Onana from the spot-kick.

However, Amorim’s men ensured that they walked away with a Premier League point after Amad Diallo scored an all-important equaliser in the 80th minute.

United had lost their last four matches across all competitions, including three consecutive Premier League defeats, ahead of their 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

Ferdinand singles out three Man Utd players

Manchester United are now 13th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are seven points ahead of 18th-place Ipswich Town after Sunday’s result.

Ruben Amorim’s men are a whopping 13 points adrift from the Premier League top four and United have only managed six league wins in 20 matches this season.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, United legend Rio Ferdinand insisted that Manuel Ugarte and Noussair Mazraoui were both “brilliant” at Anfield.

Manuel Ugarte earned high praise from United fans for his stunning performance against Liverpool, while Noussair Mazraoui excelled at Anfield with his display.

Ferdinand claimed that United full-back Diogo Dalot, who was deployed as a wing-back on the left, delivered a “top” performance against Liverpool.

“I thought Ugarte was brilliant yesterday,” he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.

“I thought Mazraoui was brilliant, Dalot was top yesterday.

“But I don’t want to see good seven or eight out of ten this week and then four or five out of ten next week. That’s the benchmark, let’s keep it there and maintain it.

“It’s easy to get up for Anfield. Where you’re going to get your questions answered, really, is Southampton next week.

“But what they have to go back to is: what got us that result? We f*****g grafted, we got after people.”

Ferdinand makes Sir Alex Ferguson claim

Ferdinand recalled his own time at United as a player under Sir Alex Ferguson and revealed one of the “proudest things” that the former manager could hear about his team.

Speaking on the legendary ex-United manager, Ferdinand added: “Sir Alex Ferguson said one of the proudest things about all his teams was when the manager of an opposition team would come into his office after a game and go, ‘Phwoar, as good as your players are, all these names you’ve got, they run like a Conference team.’

“So going back to that, making sure that’s on point, will put these guys in a good place.”
