Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have given their thoughts on Andre Onana’s performance during last night’s emotional 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen.
The win for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, their third in a row, was certainly unconvincing but they got the job done in the end and can take this form into Sunday’s Manchester derby.
Andre Onana, who has had a tough start to his career in England, was one of the heroes of the night and his penalty save in the last kick of the game could be monumental for the football club.
Well, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand, who backed him to perform pre-match, have given their thoughts on the former Ajax goalkeeper.

The former United defender believes that save could be the moment that kickstarts his United career.
“This could change his season and I hope it does confidence-wise,” Ferdinand explained on TNT Sports. “I hope he grows now. This is massive for him getting confidence now and he can go from strength to strength. All players need that and I’d like to think this is the one.”
Scholes concurred with the view of the former defender and said: “He became a hero. It will do him the world of good.”
It’s hard to disagree with the pair and this moment, this game-defining moment, could be Onana’s redemption.

When David De Gea first joined United in the summer of 2011, the Spaniard had a few tough games. A 35-yard Edin Dzeko shot slipped through his fingers and he looked shaky throughout his first three games.
However, a penalty save against Arsenal in an 8-2 win seemingly boosted his confidence massively and the hope will be that Onana’s dramatic penalty save will have the same confidence-boosting effect.
The games don’t get any easier for the Cameroon international and United as they take on Manchester City and Newcastle United in their next two games.
