Manchester United’s staff members have reportedly held a meeting with Richard Arnold and they are seemingly aggrieved about the handling of the Mason Greenwood situation.
It’s fair to say Manchester United received a huge amount of backlash over the handling of the situation with Mason Greenwood.
The United forward, who hasn’t played for the club since January 2022, was suspended pending an internal investigation.
However, it was a leak from The Athletic that United planned on reintegrating the forward into the squad that caused the utmost fervour.
They then reversed their decision and loaned the forward to Getafe, where he scored his first goal for the Spanish side this weekend.
Arnold responds to backlash
According to The Athletic, Richard Arnold, the club’s chief executive, has responded to the backlash he received from some of the club staff to how United dealt with the decision around Greenwood.
The staff meeting, which took place in September, was a chance for the staff members at the club to vent their frustration and pose any questions they had.
It is said that Arnold was surprised by the sheer amount of people who felt they couldn’t challenge the status quo.
“The first (thing they’ve learned) is around continuing to strengthen the education and welfare support to players to make sure at the front of mind is promoting healthier relationships and behaviours,” Arnold said on the Greenwood situation.
“The other learning we’ve taken is to listen to feedback from domestic abuse charities and other groups and, in particular, Women’s Aid.”
United’s poor due diligence
The Red Devils winger Antony was also out of the first team for a period of time as he faced allegations of a similar nature to that of Greenwood.
There have been calls for Arnold to resign from his position following the public u-turn on Greenwood, despite it looking like the Englishman would return.
it’s been a scathing period for the club with Gary Neville previously labelling the handling of the Greenwood situation as “horrible” and said United were devoid of “authoritative leadership”.
It’s hard to disagree with the former United right-back.
