Ralf Rangnick infamously warned Manchester United could need up to 10 signings this summer.
After resisting the need for wholesale changes, Manchester United may now be coming around to the idea that Rangnick was onto something.
United have made three signings so far. The Telegraph report the club intend to make five more before the transfer deadline, taking the total of additions to eight.
Whether United can actually manage it, having been so woeful in the transfer market so far, is another matter.

United plan to make five signings
United are reported to have targeted areas of the team which require strengthening. Of course this should have been done weeks ago.
This is Manchester United’s late-window shopping list, per The Telegraph.
- Two midfielders
- One right-back
- One goalkeeper
- One attacker
Various players have been linked to Manchester United over the past 24 hours. It has been hard to keep up.
The goalkeeper linked has been Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Yann Sommer, per Blick.
Belgian defender Thomas Meunier is on the radar, report The Telegraph.
Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro is a high profile, very ambitious target, Marca report. The Telegraph also report United have contacted Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s agents.
As for the attacking options, it’s like throwing names at a dartboard. Numerous players have been linked this week, from Matheus Cunha to Joao Felix to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Jamie Vardy.
United need to pick one, and then there’s the dilemma of what happens with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Five signings is a good late number to target, but time is running out. It would be easy for the club to make the wrong decisions and have this late desperation backfire.
