Manchester United host Everton this coming weekend, looking to bounce back from two straight Premier League defeats.

A FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest only served to mask back-to-back Premier League losses which have left Manchester United 11 points adrift of fourth placed Aston Villa.

This weekend Manchester United are back at Old Trafford to face Everton, in an early lunchtime kick-off.

Manager Erik ten Hag will update on team news in his press conference at 1.30pm on Friday. One announcement which has been made, is regarding the officials for the clash.

Referee for Manchester United v Everton

The Premier League have revealed the officials for Saturday’s match between Manchester United and Everton.

A return to Old Trafford

The officiating appointment is notable because Simon Hooper was involved in a high profile incident in his previous match at Old Trafford.

Hooper was in charge of Manchester United’s Premier League season opener against Wolves, which involved a very high profile incident.

Andre Onana was widely judged to have fouled Wolves’ Sasa Kalajdzic when attempting to claim a cross, which should have seen the visitors awarded a penalty kick.

No spot-kick was given, and The Sun reported how Hooper and the officiating crew were dropped from all Premier League matches for the following weekend.

He has refereed a Manchester United game since, an away fixture at West Ham, which was fairly incident free.

Manchester United will hope that on his return to Old Trafford, he does not attempt to compensate for the incident back in August.
