Real Madrid release official statement showing support for Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo is dealing with the tragic death of his newborn son, one of two twins his partner Georgina Rodriguez had been expecting.
Ronaldo released a statement on Instagram saying he was devastated. The twin girl survived, which Ronaldo said would give the family ‘strength’ to get through the pain.
The football world has since been rallying round Ronaldo. United sent him a message on social media, while Marcus Rashford, David de Gea and Diogo Dalot were among those to express their condolences.
It says everything about the high regard that Ronaldo is held in, that former club Real Madrid released a ‘comunicado oficial’ on their website too.
“Real Madrid CF, its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the death of one of the children that our beloved Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodríguez, were expecting.
“Real Madrid joins the pain of the whole family and wants to show them all our love and affection.”
A club legend
For all the heroics Ronaldo has performed for Manchester United, he has done even more for Real Madrid.
He won four Champions League medals at Real, became their record goalscorer, and won four Ballon d’Or awards while playing for the club.
On two separate occasions he scored more than 60 goals in an individual season for Real, before leaving in 2018.
