A disappointing 2024/25 campaign saw Ruben Amorim lose faith in Rasmus Hojlund’s ability to succeed at Manchester United.
As a result, Hojlund joined Napoli on loan over the summer, and his move will become permanent if the Italian side qualifies for the Champions League this season.
Hojlund wanted to stay at United, but ultimately it was decided that he would be offloaded and replaced by Benjamin Sesko, who has made a bright start at Old Trafford.
But Sesko’s impressive start has been outshone by Hojlund’s remarkable form at Napoli, and he has continued his hot streak on international duty with three goals in two games for Denmark.

The international break started with Hojlund scoring twice in a 6-0 win and he followed that up by scoring again in a 3-1 win over Greece on Sunday.
Danish media raved about Hojlund’s display, and it is clear for all to see that the 22-year-old is full of confidence.
Hojlund took to Instagram to celebrate his goal against Greece, writing: “A wise man once said: ‘Goals are like ketchup. Once they come, they keep on coming.'”
Hojlund has now scored eight goals for club and country this season, putting him well on track to smash his scoring record from last season.

It has become a frustrating trend at United that players have gone on to thrive as soon as they have left Old Trafford.
Scott McTominay was named Serie A MVP last season in his debut campaign for Napoli after leaving United in a £25 million deal.
Now, he lines up with Hojlund in Naples in a side aiming to defend their league title.
Antonio Conte said United will regret selling Hojlund, and that claim is already proving to be true just a few months into his loan spell.
It seems extremely likely that Hojlund’s move will become permanent, giving United no hope of seeing the Dane return to Manchester.
The transfer team will be pleased with Sesko’s start, but there must be some regret growing at the decision to offload Hojlund.
