Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund’s season is now up and running after his first goal of the campaign.

Manchester United’s top goalscorer for 2023/24 is now off the mark, with Rasmus Hojlund netting his first goal of 2024/25.

Hojlund missed the first few weeks of the season due to an injury sustained in pre-season, and has looked off the pace in his substitute cameos so far.

The Dane got a starting opportunity against Porto, and made the most of it, scoring Manchester United’s second goal of the night.

Rasmus Hojlund goal not enough for three points

Rasmus Hojlund made an under-lapping run which was picked out by Marcus Rashford, and his first time shot was too powerful for Diogo Costa to keep out.

It was the only big chance Rasmus Hojlund got all night, and he seized it, putting Manchester United 2-0 up after Rashford’s opener.

What happened next was a repeat of the usual in Manchester United’s European games. Instead of kicking on and controlling the game, United’s intensity dropped, and errors began to creep in.

Before we knew it, the score was 2-2 at half-time, and Porto went 3-2 up early in the second half.

Heroics from Andre Onana kept United alive before substitute Harry Maguire rescued a point with an injury-time header to tie it up at 3-3.

Rasmus Hojlund message after Porto

Rasmus Hojlund was pleased to score his first goal of the season, and sent a message out on Instagram following the win.

Hojlund’s light-hearted tone is not really in-keeping with the mood of the Manchester United fanbase, it has to be said.

He wrote: “Luckily I had 6 weeks to practice my celebration. A win would’ve made it perfect.”

Joshua Zirkzee left a positive message on Hojlund’s post, while winger Alejandro Garnacho also responded.

Garnacho wrote: “bro finally it’s already October,” celebrating his teammate’s first goal.

The pair’s jovial words may not go down too well with some, but it’s also good to see them shutting out the noise, and staying positive, ahead of a crucial game this weekend.
